Bobby GoolsbyHill College is relaunching its Fire Academy for the 2025 spring semester and introduces new Fire & EMS Program Coordinator Bobby Goolsby. Registration is now open.

The Fire Academy is a 24-credit hour program that offers students the latest curriculum from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Texas Commission Fire on Protection (TFCP), preparing graduates with the education and courses needed to complete their state certification exam.

Goolsby, who previously served as the EMS program coordinator at Hill College, is taking on a new role combining the fire and EMS programs in an effort to streamline these two career paths.

“Program Coordinator Goolsby’s role is focused on bridging the credential completion of our students pursuing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Fire Protection and Safety Technology career fields. The job prospects, stakeholders, and outcomes of both these programs are closely related.

“Goolsby has over 19 years of experience in fire protection and emergency medical services. He has the background and experience to successfully prepare students to become firefighters and paramedics,” said Dean of Health & Public Service Dr. Agapito Flores.

In addition to his role at the college, Goolsby is a captain at the Keller Fire Rescue, in Keller, Texas, where he has served since 2011. He has an associate degree in emergency medicine from Hill College, a bachelor’s degree in fire and emergency services administration from Texas A&M University at San Antonio, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, as well as a combined 12 state and national certifications.

With classroom improvements, updated equipment, and a highly qualified instructional team, the Fire Protection and Safety Technology program offers students industry-standard equipment and the most up-to-date curriculum to prepare them to be successful in their future careers.

“Our mission is to foster an environment of continuous learning and innovation. By investing in our Fire Academy, we are not only enhancing the capabilities of our firefighters but also reinforcing our commitment to the safety and well-being of the communities we serve. This is a pivotal step in our journey towards excellence and preparedness,” said Goolsby.
